In 1994 I bought this Rideable Bicycle Replicas Boneshaker, just because I had always wanted one. It is the cheapest model made, but it was all I could afford.
I have since put about 5,000 miles on it. In fact, it was virtually the only bike I rode during most of 1997, when I owned a coffee shop and didn’t have a lot of time to ride. You get a lot of return for your time investment when you ride a 48” wheel around Denver.
I crashed it, once, and bent the original bars, which were replaced with Club Roost risers mounted upside down. In addition to that, other alterations include original Salsa bar-ends, a threadless steer tube (thanks, Brad!), Profile stem, Chris King headset (JB Welded in place, thank you very much) and a 16” BMX wheel and caliper brake.
I have mountain biked it on flatter trails, ridden numerous 65-75 mile rides on it and routinely ride it at the Moonlight Classic ride. You can not be shy, when you ride one of these. Everyone has a question or comment, it seems.
My favorite was guy on the side of the road at the Moonlight Classic, a few years back, who yelled, “There goes a guy what’s got that old-school shit going down!”
My motto, ever since.
