Jon's Pink Gary Fisher

In 2001, I was in my last year working in a bike shop. I asked the Fisher rep to get me an unpainted hardtail MTB frame, because I wanted to paint it pink, like Paola Pezzo’s. Imagine my delight when he had the race department paint my frame with her paint. All of the other guys, who had been making fun of me for wanting a pink bike, were kinda jealous when I pulled it out of the box. It’s built with Rolf wheels, and 8-speed drivetrain (all SRAM except the Shimano bar-end shifters currently on it, running in friction mode), Manitou Black 100/120 fork, plus a Thomson seatpost and a vintage Brooks Pro saddle. It also has a Campy carbon Record headset, just because. 24 pounds, with this set-up. I have some Midge bars slated to go on it. I just can’t seem to get around to it. I don’t think I have ever ridden it that I haven’t had to talk to someone about the color. Most comments are positive, though a few are not. I guess I must be overly comfortable with my masculinity, because I don’t see the big deal. I guess it does have a bit of the “Boy Named Sue” feel about it, because I do occasionally ride a bit harder if someone’s watching after mentioning the pinkness. It’s a great ride, though, and I’ll never sell it.
