This bike started out as an early 1990’s red and white Schwinn SuperSport. I bought it used in 1992, when I moved to Colorado. It was my only road bike for a couple of years, and I used it mostly as a commuter.
Once I bought a newer road bike at the shop where I worked, I retired this bike to my parents’ house in Tennessee, and rode it when I visited them. A couple of years ago, I brought it home and, after taking all of the braze-ons and the derailleur hanger off, had it powder coated in dark green. I dubbed it the Hornet, and built it with some random parts, including Suzue basic track hubs.
Since then, almost everything has been upgraded. Old-school Campy Record track hubs are laced to Sun rims, a Campy bottom bracket and crank push the 39/16 gear, and Campy brakes, brake levers, headset and 26.4 seatpost make it the most Campy-complete bike I own.
The Storika seat was one of the most uncomfortable I ever rode until it broke in. Now, it rivals my Brooks Pros and Wrights seats for comfort.
Two water bottle cages, two brakes, drop bars and clipless pedals make this my long-distance fixie. If I know I’m going out for over 30 miles, I take this one.
